Salary: USD 289,700 - 362,100 / annual
Mercury is a fintech platform providing banking, treasury, and financial workflow solutions for startups and technology companies. The company is seeking a Head of Data Engineering & Platform to lead and grow a high-performing team of data engineers responsible for building Mercury's core data infrastructure.
In this role, you will lead a team of senior data and analytics engineers, define and execute Mercury's long-term data platform strategy, and build architecture and tooling that power analytics, AI, operational systems, and self-service capabilities across the company. You'll focus on making Mercury's data easy for both people and AI systems to discover, understand, and use through investments in semantic models, metadata, and developer tooling.
Key responsibilities include establishing foundations for a trusted, resilient data platform by driving best practices for reliability, observability, data quality, governance, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance. You'll partner closely with Engineering, Product, Data Science, Security, and Infrastructure leaders to ensure the data platform accelerates product development, business operations, and decision-making.
Required qualifications include 10+ years of relevant experience with 5+ years leading data or engineering teams. You should have architected modern data platforms at scale, built data foundations and semantic layers, and demonstrated technical judgment in evolving data architecture through rapid growth. Deep expertise in modern data infrastructure (data modeling, orchestration, streaming, storage systems, metadata, governance) is essential. Experience partnering with Security, Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to meet financial regulatory standards is required.
