Philo is a streaming service building the future of television by combining modern technology with compelling content. The company serves over a billion streams annually and operates a petabyte-scale data lake processing trillions of events yearly.
As Head of Data, you will lead and scale Philo's growing team of Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Data Analysts. You'll own all data initiatives across the company, ensuring stakeholders have access to timely, accurate, data-driven insights needed to achieve business goals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee core data science work executed in cross-functional teams, including product experiments, A/B testing, growth and acquisition modeling, and product insights such as customer journey analysis and measuring content search and recommendation effectiveness.
- Own the quality and performance of the data platform, including architecture, instrumentation, data collection/processing/validation, governance, security, and compliance.
- Ensure the company collects the right data and events, processes them in a scalable and modular way, and builds a foundation of reliable data for insights across teams.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and AI/ML teams to support development and delivery of Philo's content recommendation system.
- Partner with business and finance teams to build deep understanding of Philo's business metrics and financial performance.
The data team works on diverse projects including marketing mix modeling, multi-touch attribution, conversion prediction, recommendation system evaluation, lifecycle marketing analysis, quality of experience impact modeling, data infrastructure engineering, analytics engineering for billing/subscription data, and competitive market analysis.
The team leverages modern tools including dbt, GrowthBook, Robyn, Superset, PyTorch, Segment, Redshift, Snowflake, SageMaker, AWS Glue, Mode, Omni, Avo, and BigEye.
