Astra is building mission-critical infrastructure for moving money at scale, processing billions in annual transaction volume with 99.9%+ uptime. The company powers real-time transfers, bank debits, card disbursements, and complex financial compliance systems through APIs and automation tools for developers and product teams in banking, BaaS, payroll, lending, and fintech. As Head of Compliance, you will lead and scale Astra's enterprise compliance program across financial crimes, payments compliance, privacy, security assurance, and governance. You'll inherit an established program and team, responsible for strengthening strategy, operating model, controls, and oversight as the company's products, payment flows, partnerships, and compliance obligations evolve. Key responsibilities include: serving as Astra's designated BSA/AML Compliance Officer overseeing KYC/KYB, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and financial-crimes risk; setting enterprise compliance strategy and continuously improving policies, procedures, risk assessments, controls, testing, and training; providing clear reporting to executive leadership and the Board on material compliance risks and program performance; leading and scaling the Compliance and GRC team while remaining hands-on in complex reviews and strategic initiatives. You'll oversee payments and bank partner compliance, serving as the senior compliance contact for sponsor-bank partners and ensuring compliance with ACH/NACHA, card-network, RTP, and FedNow requirements. You'll evaluate new products, payment flows, customers, and partnerships to identify compliance requirements and establish controls before launch, and partner with outside counsel on regulatory developments and potential licensing requirements. Additionally, you'll own governance and maturity of SOC 2 and PCI DSS programs, oversee audit readiness across BSA, NACHA, sponsor-bank, and customer audits, maintain an enterprise risk and controls framework, lead privacy compliance programs including GDPR and U.S. privacy requirements, and oversee third-party compliance risk and customer assurance activities. You'll advise Product, Engineering, Sales, and Integrations teams on compliance requirements for new products and use cases, and manage third-party compliance vendors including KYC/KYB/sanctions screening providers. Reporting to the COO, you'll serve as Astra's senior compliance leader and key advisor to executive leadership and the Board.
