Factory is seeking its first Head of Community to build and lead developer engagement from the ground up. This is a hands-on role combining event production, ambassador program management, and developer relations.
You will own the Factory Guild, the company's ambassador program, recruiting and supporting the first cohorts while ensuring the program sustains beyond the critical early phase. You'll run developer events end-to-end—from invitations through follow-up—and represent Factory at sponsored events. Your role includes being a visible, credible voice for Factory across multiple channels: on stage at talks, in workshops, on podcasts, and during live product demos.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and scaling the developer ambassador program with early cohorts
- Executing developer events from conception to completion
- Serving as a recognizable and relatable voice for Factory in the developer community
- Engaging authentically in spaces where developers already congregate, including open source projects
- Closing the feedback loop between community and product: surfacing developer requests to the product team and communicating outcomes back to the community
- Creating educational content—tutorials, demo scripts, workshop materials—to help developers get started
You'll work in-office in San Francisco (5 days/week, walking distance to Caltrain) and may travel to events in other locations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of experience in developer relations, community management, developer advocacy, or as a developer actively engaged in community work
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills, paired with excellent one-on-one communication ability
- Strong writing skills with authentic, relatable, and professional communication style
- Technical credibility with engineers (engineering background not required, but you must be confident demoing the product and discussing autonomous software, coding agents, harnesses, and LLMs)
- Ability to communicate quickly and respond promptly to community members
- Demonstrated track record of running events or programs end-to-end, at any scale
- Comfort with ambiguity and willingness to ship scrappy first versions rather than waiting for perfect conditions
IDEAL CANDIDATES MAY ALSO HAVE:
- Genuine enjoyment of people interaction and energy from conversation and listening
- Experience building community or ambassador programs from scratch
- Existing recognition in AI or developer-tooling circles through open source, speaking, writing, or community leadership
- Software engineering background that you want to apply to a more people-facing role
