Salary: USD 125,000 - 165,000 / annual
Apex is a fast-growing aerospace startup manufacturing satellite buses (spacecraft platforms) at scale for commercial and government customers. The company combines software, vertical integration, and hardware designed for manufacturing to enable earth observation, communications, and other space-based applications.
As an Avionics Harness Design Engineer, you will design, analyze, and verify electrical harnesses for spacecraft, satellites, rovers, and aerospace systems. You'll develop detailed designs including wiring diagrams, schematics, and 3D routing models, selecting appropriate connectors, backshells, wires, and shielding materials for space environments.
Key responsibilities include performing electrical analyses (voltage drop, current derating, signal integrity, thermal effects), ensuring compliance with EMI/EMC requirements and spaceflight standards (NASA, ESA, IPC/WHMA-A-620, SMC-S-020, NASA-STD-8739.4), and conducting environmental assessments for extreme space conditions including thermal, radiation, and mechanical stresses.
You will develop comprehensive test plans and procedures for harness qualification and environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, radiation), collaborate with testing teams to validate designs, and generate detailed documentation including BOMs, ICDs, and manufacturing drawings. You'll work closely with systems engineers, mechanical engineers, integration teams, and manufacturing to ensure designs align with system goals. Support includes harness installation, integration, troubleshooting, and problem resolution during spacecraft assembly and testing phases.
Requirements: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field; 3+ years of electrical harness design experience in aerospace or space systems; strong understanding of electrical design principles; proficiency in electrical CAD tools (Altium, Rapid Harness) and mechanical CAD tools (NX, Teamcenter PLM); knowledge of spaceflight standards and quality compliance; ability to interpret schematics and technical drawings; strong problem-solving and collaborative skills.
