OpenAI's 1P Hardware Systems team is seeking a Hardware Systems Planning Lead to own the integrated demand, supply, and deployment plan for first-party AI infrastructure systems. This role sits at the intersection of hardware engineering, infrastructure, supply chain, manufacturing, deployment, and finance.
You will establish planning mechanisms that translate infrastructure demand into executable systems plans, connecting system demand and deployment timing to site and configuration requirements, power availability, XPU needs, hardware supply commitments, manufacturing capacity, and site readiness. You will create a single, actionable view of whether deployment plans can be met and maintain visibility into what changed, the impact, and required actions when demand, supply, configuration, site readiness, or power timing shifts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the integrated planning process for 1P hardware systems, maintaining a decision-ready supply plan updated weekly
- Validating end-to-end supply plan executability across components, XPU availability, system integration, factory capacity, site readiness, and deployment
- Leading weekly deployment and supply reviews focused on material changes, emerging risks, decisions, and recovery-plan execution
- Publishing weekly delta reports explaining changes, their causes, and downstream impacts
- Tracking forecast-versus-commit gaps and driving recovery plans with named owners and closure dates
- Coordinating biweekly end-to-end supply picture updates for leadership
- Partnering with Hardware Engineering and Infrastructure teams to translate roadmap and configuration changes into system requirements
- Working with Supply Chain, manufacturing partners, and suppliers to pressure-test commitments and establish recovery paths
- Anticipating risks, developing scenarios, and providing recommendations to senior leaders
- Building scalable planning models, reporting standards, and operating mechanisms
Ideal candidates bring significant experience in hardware systems planning, supply planning, program management, or operations supporting complex, high-volume technology products or infrastructure. You should have strong understanding of dependencies among hardware demand, component supply, manufacturing capacity, system configurations, site readiness, power availability, and deployment schedules. Experience building integrated demand-and-supply plans at weekly granularity, with demonstrated ability to pressure-test plan executability, is essential. Exceptional analytical skills, strong program leadership, and the ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams and senior leadership are critical. Experience with AI infrastructure, hyperscale data centers, accelerator systems, semiconductors, server/rack manufacturing, or complex hardware supply chains is valued. You thrive in fast-moving, high-ambiguity environments where requirements evolve quickly, with high ownership and a bias toward surfacing risks early.
