Boom Supersonic is building the Overture supersonic airliner and Superpower gas turbine—machines requiring some of the most demanding manufacturing in modern industry. This role exists to build the inspection system that makes quality credible, repeatable, and scalable across the manufacturing operation. Unlike traditional quality engineer roles that inherit and maintain existing systems, this is a greenfield opportunity. You will architect the quality infrastructure from scratch while hardware actively moves through the shop. Key responsibilities include: • Define inspection processes from receiving through in-process checks to final inspection, establishing repeatable workflows • Develop inspection report formats, traceability frameworks, and nonconformance workflows that form the backbone of the quality system • Work directly with the inspection team to establish standards for how inspection programs are built, documented, and handed off • Identify gaps in current inspection capability, specify equipment needed, and build business cases for procurement • Establish protocols for parts sent to outside processing (heat treat, coating) and verification upon return • Build toward AS9100 compliance from day one, architecting processes that won't require rebuilding later This is a demanding role requiring someone who can operate independently, make decisions under uncertainty, and drive credibility in a high-stakes manufacturing environment. You'll need hands-on experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing quality, deep knowledge of inspection standards and AS9100, and the ability to translate technical requirements into scalable processes. The role demands both strategic thinking and tactical execution—designing systems while solving immediate production challenges.
