Waabi is seeking a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Team Lead to own the strategy, architecture, roadmap, and execution of the company's HIL program across hardware and software organizations. This role is critical to Waabi's mission of advancing autonomous transportation through rigorous testing and validation. You will define and deliver a tiered HIL architecture spanning lightweight component-level benches (single ECU under test) through embedded-system benches to full-system integration benches, scaled across multiple vehicle platforms and OEM programs. A key responsibility is verifying critical electrical, timing, and fault-handling requirements from full-vehicle testing onto HIL benches, ensuring only mature software reaches production vehicles. You will own safety-critical fault injection on real hardware, including power loss scenarios, autonomy disconnects, redundant power failover, and other destructive or high-risk scenarios verified safely before track deployment. You'll validate real-time constraints using hardware timestamping and instrumented measurement tools like oscilloscopes and high-speed DAQ systems. Integration of HIL testing into CI and the firmware/software release process is essential, including automated smoke testing and test modality tracking. You will partner closely with Embedded Systems, Systems & Safety, Autonomy, V&V, and Infrastructure teams to define requirements coverage and unblock development. As the program scales, you will plan bench capacity, hardware resources (ECUs, actuators, harnessing), and headcount, hiring and growing the HIL team. You'll establish documentation, processes, and success metrics including fault-injection coverage, release validation time, and timing compliance. Required qualifications include a BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience, plus 7+ years in HIL, embedded systems test, or V&V for safety-critical systems with demonstrated experience building HIL programs from early stages. You must have hands-on experience architecting and building custom HIL platforms and using off-the-shelf systems, deep knowledge of automotive interfaces (CAN, automotive Ethernet), and proficiency in Python and test automation frameworks. Strong technical leadership, cross-functional project management, and excellent technical writing are essential.
