Temporal is an open-source programming model company on a mission to be the reliable foundation of every developer's toolbox. This role owns the design, administration, and analysis of Temporal's sales compensation programs, reporting to the Director of GTM Strategy and Analytics. You will run the monthly commission process end-to-end, calculating payouts and handling edge cases such as consumption spikes, departing customers, and windfall situations. You'll produce monthly Commission Review Decks for sales and finance leadership and triage disputes from reps and managers. The role includes designing, tracking, and troubleshooting SPIFs (Special Performance Incentive Funds) across segments including New Logo, Growth, Consumption, Manager, SA, and BDR roles. You'll structure payout mechanics, set rates, and handle retroactive adjustments. You'll write and issue compensation plans for AEs, BDRs, managers, and SAs, including quota setting and base commission rate calculations. You'll handle proration for mid-year hires, role changes, and promotions. Compensation policy and governance responsibilities include drafting new policies (e.g., commission leave policy for consumption vs. non-consumption quota holders), interpreting existing terms, raising edge cases for leadership approval, and evaluating/implementing commission software platforms like CaptivateIQ. Analytics work involves monitoring rep-level attainment, flagging outliers (e.g., reps hitting 100%+ quota from single accounts), evaluating windfall provisions, and partnering with GTM Analytics to ensure data integrity across systems. You'll need 5-7 years of sales compensation, commissions, or comp operations experience, ideally in B2B SaaS or consumption-based businesses. Strong Excel/Google Sheets modeling skills are essential; SQL or BI tool experience is a plus. Experience with commission platforms (CaptivateIQ, Xactly) and Salesforce is required. You must have high attention to detail, comfort with deadline-driven monthly processes, ability to translate ambiguous policy questions into defensible decisions, and strong written communication skills.
