Whisper Aero is a next-generation aerospace company developing cleaner, quieter, and more efficient electric propulsion systems for aviation and autonomous aircraft. The company works across commercial and government applications, including Department of Defense, NASA, and SBIR/STTR programs, with a team of industry veterans from NASA, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Joby Aviation, GE, Pratt & Whitney, and Rolls-Royce.
You will serve as the Government Contracts Attorney, a highly hands-on role in a fast-moving startup environment. This position offers significant ownership and the opportunity to build Whisper Aero's government contracts infrastructure as the company scales. You will be the subject-matter expert to leadership and cross-functional teams on government contracts, proposals, negotiations, compliance, and relationships with primes, subcontractors, and government customers.
Key responsibilities include: navigating the complex government contracting environment; advising on contract structures, terms, and compliance requirements; supporting proposal development and bid strategy; managing negotiations with government agencies and prime contractors; ensuring regulatory compliance (DFARS, FAR, export controls); advising on subcontractor relationships and teaming agreements; and providing strategic counsel on risk mitigation.
The ideal candidate understands the business objective, identifies risk, develops practical solutions, and helps the team execute. You will work closely with engineering, business development, and leadership teams to move quickly while maintaining legal rigor. This role requires someone who can balance pragmatism with compliance in a startup context.
