Brodie League is a fast-growing adult recreational basketball community operating 35+ cities across Canada and the US with 50,000+ athletes and 750M+ views. The company is scaling from ~700 teams this winter to 1,400 by summer 2027, backed by seed funding from Lerer Hippeau and Golden Ventures. As Go-to-Market Engineer, you will build the growth systems and automation infrastructure that enables a small team to operate at scale across 35+ cities and replicate that system into 20 new markets. You report to the Sr. Director of Growth and work directly as a builder rather than through layers. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Growth Playbook & CRM: Own the CRM data model, lead stages, routing, dashboards and data hygiene. Tie every signed team to a captain, City Launcher and source. Build playbook v1 with City Launchers including launch checklists, affiliate/referral program structure, and data on optimal launch markets. Automate launch processes so new city launchers can execute from day one. Convert 1,400 teams into weekly targets by city, channel and season; identify and fix bottlenecks. Build weekly growth scorecard for leadership review. Growth Automation: Build agents for speed-to-lead (captain inquiries answered in minutes), captain/team follow-up, referral tracking, deposit reminders, City Launcher reporting, and mass communications. Automate CRM field population from calls/messages. All agents ship in propose mode with named human approvers and logs; earn auto mode only when acceptance rates justify it. Automate any weekly manual task, targeting 10x time savings. Compliance & Security: Build marketing consent into every capture point and workflow (CASL in Canada, CAN-SPAM/TCPA in US). Protect deliverability through authentication, list hygiene, suppression and send-rate controls. Handle customer data with least-privilege access; no uncontrolled third-party uploads. Partner with VP of Engineering on security controls. Measurement: Tie Meta conversion events, self-attribution forms and landing-page tracking to CRM so ad spend is judged by cost per signed team by city. Run landing-page and signup experiments weekly; graduate winners, kill losers, document why. Own outcomes: when something doesn't work, explain what happened, why, and what runs next. Documentation & Training: Document all systems so Sr. Director of Growth, City Launchers and leadership can operate independently. Record demos of everything built. Support campaign work (waitlist/drop-in concepts) and make production repeatable. Track adoption, usage and impact. FIRST 90 DAYS DELIVERABLES: - Growth playbook v1 and live CRM with clean stages, routing, reporting, affiliate program structure in use by City Launchers - At least three automations in production, each with named approver and passed consent/deliverability checks - Weekly growth scorecard on one screen - Ad spend reported as cost per signed team by city - Clear recommendation on next hiring needs REQUIREMENTS: - Build with AI daily: LLMs, agent tooling, APIs, automation tools (Claude Code, n8n, Clay), Python or TypeScript, SQL - Shipped automation in production handling thousands of leads/records weekly; can name the result driven - Built AI systems in compliant/secure way: explain marketing consent, data access, deliverability handling, approval gates for agents, error recovery - Moved funnel metrics (acquisition, conversion, retention, referral); can explain before/after and causation - Made growth decisions on messy data; can articulate which parts you didn't trust - Non-technical users adopt and sustain what you build without ongoing support - Self-sufficient; don't need direct reports to execute - Own outcomes without ego; bring why and next move when things fail; voice concerns about plans - Based in Toronto, in-office at Toronto HQ preferred NICE TO HAVE: - Experience at consumer, community or marketplace business with local supply/demand dynamics - Customer.io or similar lifecycle tool; attribution models or data warehouse experience - Understanding of video/storytelling (role doesn't own content strategy but operates in content world) - Basketball player or understanding of community sports participation City Launchers own their markets and operate game nights (roughly 7pm–midnight). Your job ensures their follow-up, reporting and pipeline run independently, and mass communications (8,000-person email lists, city-wide waitlist pushes) run through workflows you built. You'll attend game nights but focus on systems that work without you in the room.
