Blank Street, a fast-growing food and beverage brand, is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist to own and scale U.S. payroll operations while supporting the growing global business. You will manage end-to-end U.S. payroll for exempt and non-exempt workforce across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Responsibilities include payroll processing, reconciliations, statutory requirements, audits, and compliance work. You'll also support U.K. payroll operations alongside internal teams and external partners, with opportunities to expand ownership as you build familiarity with the market.
Beyond payroll, you'll support U.S. benefits administration where it intersects with payroll, audits, and compliance, partnering with Finance and People teams to ensure accurate employee deductions, contributions, and benefit-related payroll processes. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role requiring precision and consistency. You'll manage weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll cycles while strengthening processes, reducing risk, and building scalable payroll operations.
Key responsibilities include preparing timely and compliant payroll across U.S. and U.K. entities; managing benefits, pension, and 401(k) administration; owning payroll period-end activities and reconciliations; performing ad-hoc payroll research and analysis; researching and calculating payroll-related judgments and estimates; providing operational payroll support; developing and maintaining payroll policies and internal controls; liaising with internal teams and external providers on filings and remittances; and serving as point of contact for payroll audit inquiries.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Payroll, HR, or related field; 2–3 years of hands-on payroll experience covering U.S. and exposure to U.K. in multi-entity or fast-growth environments (retail, hospitality, or multi-site businesses preferred); strong understanding of payroll fundamentals including statutory deductions, benefits, employment taxes, and controls; experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms (ADP, Deel, Gusto, Workday, Rippling, or similar); proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to work independently and proactively escalate risks; and a team-first, service-oriented mindset with discretion when handling sensitive employee data. Payroll-related qualifications (CIPP, FPC/CPP) preferred but not required.
