Basecamp Research is building frontier AI for therapeutic design, using proprietary genomic datasets (BaseData) to train EDEN models that design cell and gene therapies, enzymes, and peptides. The company recently closed a $140M Series C and has offices in London and Boston. You will serve as Global Research Program Manager, reporting to the VP of Global Research with dotted-line alignment to the Founding Technical Program Manager. You are the connective tissue between departments, driving operational efficiency, coordinating cross-team projects, managing key partnerships, and overseeing tools and operations that technical teams rely on. Key responsibilities include: **External Partnership & Sequencing Operations**: Manage relationships with external technical and scientific partners, including universities, sequencing vendors, and research collaborators. Own operational coordination between Global Research and external sequencing providers—tracking sample send-offs, managing timelines, and maintaining visibility of pipeline status. Flag quality or capacity issues early and work with providers to resolve blockers before they impact programmes. As sequencing volume scales, ensure professional handoff between field, production, and provider teams. **Scientific Output & Publications**: Track all active collaborations and partnerships, including publication leads, writing timelines, and submission dates. Ensure commitments made at partnership signature are met (data returns, capacity building, sampling deliverables). Coordinate publication timelines across collaborations to support Basecamp's scientific narrative and partner obligations. Link expedition outputs to downstream R&D planning and ensure protocols are rolled out to partner labs with expected data timelines. **Cross-Functional Coordination**: Work across Global Research, Data Science, and Science teams to plan and execute cross-functional initiatives for foundational model development. Partner closely with the Founding TPM to keep teams aligned and working as one unit. Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements without adding bureaucratic overhead. Promote knowledge sharing through lightweight, accessible documentation. Oversee selection, implementation, and optimization of software tools and platforms (project management, lab management, data systems) used by technical teams. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced startup environment where you'll make a direct impact on how a cutting-edge biotech company scales operations. **Requirements**: - 5+ years of programme or project management experience within scientific, research, or biotech organisations, with a track record of coordinating complex, multi-workstream programmes with multiple stakeholders - Proven ability to hold scientists, field teams, and partner organisations accountable to timelines and deliverables without damaging relationships - Exceptional organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; you naturally build processes that prevent problems rather than solving them repeatedly - Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear status reports, partner updates, and internal escalations independently - Experience managing relationships with external vendors or partners in scientific or technical contexts; comfortable evaluating services, tracking SLAs, and keeping providers accountable - Scientific literacy: familiarity with genomics, sequencing workflows, and data pipelines sufficient for informed discussions and identifying issues - Proactive, resourceful, and independent; you spot issues before escalation and rally the right people to fix them - Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change in a scaling startup environment **Advantageous experience**: - Background at a research funder (Wellcome, Gates Foundation, CGIAR) or research organisation (ARIA, Crick, Sanger, EMBL) where scientific deliverables are tracked against contractual commitments - Familiarity with access and benefit-sharing frameworks, DSI governance, or international biodiversity research partnerships - Experience coordinating scientific publications across multi-institutional collaborations - Master's or PhD in life sciences, computational sciences, or related field - Prior experience at a high-growth startup or scaling operations for a technical team
