Writer is an enterprise generative AI platform valued at $1.9B that helps leading companies like Mars, Marriott, Uber, and Vanguard build and deploy AI agents grounded in their data. The company is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Global Payroll Manager to own end-to-end payroll operations across a complex, multi-entity, multi-currency, multi-regulatory environment.
You will manage payroll execution across Writer's active entities spanning the US (multi-state with varying pay frequencies), UK (PAYE, HMRC filings, National Insurance, pension auto-enrolment), Canada (federal/provincial remittances, ROE filings, CPP/EI), Singapore (CPF contributions, MOM compliance, IR8A filings), UAE (WPS compliance, gratuity calculations), and a growing set of Employer of Record countries across Europe. You'll also oversee contractor payroll, 401(k) and pension administration, and manage variable compensation cycles in coordination with Finance and Revenue Operations.
Key responsibilities include: processing payments and supporting GL journals, month-end reconciliations, and variance analysis; coordinating with EOR providers and validating invoices; managing regulatory filings (W-2s, P60s, P45s, T4s, and international equivalents) across monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles; reconciling benefits deductions against carrier invoices; leading new country payroll setup as Writer expands; and serving as a trusted resource for employees on payroll questions and tax situations. You will identify manual inefficiencies and build scalable workflows that integrate with Finance and HR systems, staying proactive on evolving tax requirements across all jurisdictions.
Required: 6–10+ years of payroll experience in high-growth, global technology companies; expertise with Rippling Payroll; strong command of US multi-state payroll; international payroll experience across at least two of UK, Canada, Singapore, or UAE; experience managing EOR and third-party payroll vendors; regulatory expertise and compliance instincts; systems proficiency; analytical rigor and documentation habits; and clear communication across Finance, Legal, and People teams. Preferred: familiarity with equity compensation tax and withholding (RSUs, options); experience with global entity setup and new-country launches; CPP certification; experience designing scalable payroll audits and internal controls; background with shadow payrolls or expatriate payroll; and payroll accounting fundamentals.
