Aspora is a borderless financial operating system founded in 2022, backed by Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, Y Combinator and others. The company serves people moving money across borders, starting with Indians abroad, and operates across India, UK, UAE, EU and US with 150+ employees. As Global MLRO, you will lead Aspora's global financial crime compliance function, reporting to the COO and working closely with the Head of Fincrime. This role owns the judgement calls that shape how Aspora scales into new markets and manages money laundering risk across all corridors and products. Key responsibilities include: - Setting global AML standards and building one practical approach across markets and products so risk decisions happen by design rather than through constant escalation - Creating frameworks that make trade-offs visible—clarifying options, ownership, and triggers for rethink - Owning Aspora's regulatory relationships and leading the business through independent audits and regulatory scrutiny - Building playbooks, training and decision frameworks that allow teams to confidently handle financial crime decisions - Identifying emerging financial crime patterns and evolving controls proactively to protect customers without adding unnecessary friction - Leading, developing and growing a global Fincrime team capable of operating at Aspora's pace and scale - Partnering directly with Product, Engineering, Operations and leadership to embed financial crime controls into products from the ground up You will have genuine autonomy to shape how Aspora manages financial crime risk as it enters new markets, launches new products and scales rapidly. Requirements: - Extensive AML and financial crime experience across payments, remittance, banking or fintech, ideally across multiple markets - Deep knowledge of AML regulations and proven ability to translate regulatory requirements into real-world decisions, customer journeys, product controls and decision frameworks - Track record of building strong AML frameworks, automating controls, building high-performing teams, or solving genuinely difficult financial crime problems - Experience shaping AML standards across multiple markets and building consistency across different regulatory environments - Demonstrated leadership through serious incidents, regulatory challenges or remediations, with ability to make difficult calls under pressure and stay accountable - Strong judgment about when to move fast, when to push back and when risks need escalation - Ability to build teams, playbooks and systems that make others better at managing risk, rather than centralizing decisions - High ownership mentality: self-critical, decisive, comfortable acknowledging mistakes and fixing them quickly - Excitement about building something new and defining what practical, intelligent global AML looks like rather than maintaining existing rulebooks
