Paxos Labs is building enterprise infrastructure for the next generation of trusted onchain financial products, working with major financial institutions to create transparent and verifiable digital asset solutions. The General Counsel will own all legal and regulatory strategy as the company scales its stablecoin, tokenized commodity, and institutional DeFi products.
As the sole legal officer, you will establish the legal function from the ground up rather than maintain an existing one. Your responsibilities span regulatory characterization and positioning (securities, commodities, money transmission, virtual asset service provider classifications), commercial negotiation and contracting for stablecoin earn agreements and institutional partnerships, and corporate governance including entity formation, board matters, cap table management, and financing documentation.
You will lead the compliance stack—AML, sanctions programs, KYB, counterparty onboarding, and policy development for institutional relationships. You'll handle employment, IP, privacy, and general corporate matters as they arise, and serve as the legal voice in direct negotiations with counterparties.
The ideal candidate has 8–12 years of legal practice combining top-tier law firm experience with in-house work at a digital asset or fintech company. You must have demonstrated expertise in digital asset regulation, including token classification and licensing questions; transactional depth in secured lending or structured finance; experience with offshore structures and multijurisdictional coverage; and conceptual fluency in how digital asset products function (smart contracts, vaults, oracles, liquidation mechanisms). You should be comfortable operating independently and building a team as the company scales.
Paxos Labs is a heavily in-person team based in New York City, though remote work is considered on a case-by-case basis. You'll have the opportunity to define the legal organization from scratch, contribute to transforming traditional finance with digital asset solutions, and participate in ownership structures.
