PeopleFun, a Dallas-based studio within Tripledot Studios (one of the world's largest independent mobile games companies), is seeking a Level Designer for its New Games Team. The studio creates original casual mobile games for mass-market audiences, with titles reaching over 25 million daily active users.
In this role, you will design, build, and tune levels in Unity and custom level editors that drive player retention and engagement. You'll shape player progression across level ramps by introducing new mechanics, pacing difficulty curves, and balancing challenging levels with breathers. Your work will include inventing new goals, blockers, and boosters within existing games, prototyping them, and validating designs through playtests.
You'll work in a hypothesis-first environment where new games are tested with real players within weeks, not years. This means rapid iteration: you'll use playtest feedback and level-by-level metrics (attempts, win rate, completion time, drop-off) to continuously refine the experience. You'll collaborate closely with engineers on procedural and AI-assisted level generation, maintain shared documentation on level design intent, and regularly analyze top casual games to bring competitive insights back to the team.
The team is small and senior-heavy, focused on incubation and rapid prototyping. You'll move across multiple prototypes at different stages and pivot quickly when data suggests a new direction.
**Requirements:**
- 2+ years of professional level design experience on casual games, OR 3+ years of professional experience in related disciplines on mobile games
- Hands-on experience building levels using level editors
- Comfort with Unity and basic game development tools (e.g., source control)
- Working knowledge of level design fundamentals: progression, pacing, difficulty curves, and onboarding (FTUE)
- Demonstrated experience revising designs based on playtest feedback
- Clear written and verbal communication to collaborate with artists, animators, engineers, and product partners
- Ability to work on a hybrid schedule from the Dallas-area office
**Nice to have:**
- Shipped levels in puzzle, word, block, or match games with portfolio samples
- Experience reading level funnels and tuning from data (Looker, BigQuery, Tableau)
- Experience prototyping new mechanics with AI or whitebox methods
- Spreadsheet fluency for content authoring and tuning
- Experience taking a game from prototype through soft launch or working on an incubation team
- Scripting experience (C# or Python) or procedural/AI-assisted content generation
- Experience designing or evaluating A/B tests on level content
- Habit of playing and analyzing top-grossing casual games
