Scopely is seeking a Game Design Director to lead the design vision and execution for Star Trek Fleet Command, a top-grossing 4X MMO with millions of daily active players. In this hybrid role based in Dublin, you will own the design standards, direction, and player experiences across monthly content releases and long-term game evolution.
Key responsibilities include directing a team of designers and live ops specialists to craft compelling progression systems and content; mentoring designers in systems and economy design to elevate team standards; fostering a high-performance culture through leadership and people development; shaping the game economy and design processes in collaboration with product, analytics, and engineering teams; and using data and player feedback to drive iterative improvements.
You will be responsible for designing at scale—ensuring long-term content extensibility, system health, and player satisfaction. This is a leadership role where you'll translate KPI targets into creative direction, manage complex F2P economies, and guide teams through the creative process to deliver on both player and product needs.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of game design leadership experience; 8+ years designing systems or economies for live, F2P games (preferably MMO, 4X, or strategy); deep expertise in F2P systems design, progression modeling, and complex game economies; excellent leadership and team management skills; proven ability to deliver clear creative direction and managerial feedback; mastery of all game design disciplines (concept, progression, interface, monetization, retention); proficiency with spreadsheets and power curve balancing; and experience in cross-functional, live production environments.
Bonus qualifications include deep 4X genre knowledge, familiarity with SQL or scripting tools, passion for Star Trek or sci-fi, and prior experience with alliance or co-op systems in large-scale games.
