Catawiki is a curated marketplace for buying and selling special objects, with over 25 million items sold and 100,000+ unique items auctioned weekly. The company operates with 800+ employees across offices in Amsterdam and Lisbon, serving millions of customers globally across 80+ categories.
You will join one of Catawiki's main Development Verticals—Demand, Supply, or Fulfilment—working alongside Backend, Frontend, iOS, and Android Engineers. Your mission is to improve the experience of buyers, sellers, and internal teams across the platform by building product innovations for Catawiki's web and mobile apps.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build impactful product experiences by delivering innovations across the platform for buyers, sellers, customer service, and internal operations teams
- Create adaptable web frontends on top of scalable microservices using TypeScript and ReactJS
- Deliver responsive, accessible experiences that work seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile screens
- Optimize product performance by measuring, monitoring systems, and using insights to improve user experiences
- Partner with Product Managers and UX Designers on A/B tests and data-driven iteration
- Collaborate across disciplines with engineers, QA, design, and product colleagues to build scalable, maintainable solutions
You will work in an interdisciplinary team environment with a test-and-learn approach, combining experimentation and data with a focus on maintainability and long-term quality. Teams take ownership of their product areas and work together to ship features and pursue meaningful technical challenges.
This is a hybrid role based in Amsterdam with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office. The company values passionate engineers with strong attention to detail, initiative, and collaborative spirit in a diverse and dynamic environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Extensive frontend experience as a Frontend Engineer, using JavaScript or TypeScript as your main stack, with a strong portfolio of frontend deliveries
- Strong web foundations: proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, with understanding of HTTP/S, Critical Rendering Path, CORS, caching, and CDNs
- Modern frontend expertise: familiarity with ReactJS, NextJS, Redux, CSS Modules, Tailwind, and/or Rails
- Proven experience in product companies, working closely with engineers and Product Managers as part of autonomous, cross-functional teams
- Production ownership experience: designing, implementing, deploying, monitoring, and managing applications with focus on availability, latency, and consistency
- Quality-minded engineering: understanding of SOLID and DRY principles, with consideration for accessibility, security, SEO, performance, testing, observability, internationalization, and typing
- Initiative and collaboration: ability to take ownership, welcome challenges, help raise team level, share knowledge across teams, and actively expand skills and impact
- Validation mindset: ability to validate ideas quickly, iterate based on insights, and build scalable solutions
- Candidates must already be based in the Netherlands; visa sponsorship and relocation support are not available
- Plus: familiarity with NodeJS and production experience is a plus for effective cross-stack collaboration
