SoFi is seeking a Fraud Strategist for Business & Commercial Banking to own fraud strategy across the company's business banking surface, including business onboarding, SMB lending, business deposit accounts, and commercial money movement.
In this role, you will design and implement fraud decisioning that treats the business entity, its beneficial owners, and transaction behavior as a single integrated risk surface. Key responsibilities include:
**Business Identity Strategy**: Lead entity verification at onboarding, including verification against registry and standing data, beneficial ownership (UBO) verification, TIN/EIN validation, and detection of synthetic businesses, shell companies, and recently formed entities designed to pass KYB checks.
**Commercial Payment Fraud Detection**: Design detection systems for business email compromise, vendor impersonation, invoice fraud, payroll diversion, check fraud (counterfeit, altered, remote deposit), and risk-tiered decisioning for ACH origination, wire transfers, and real-time payments from business accounts.
**SMB Lending Defense**: Build first-party and credit-abuse defenses against bust-out schemes, loan stacking, misrepresented financials, falsified bank statements, straw ownership, and post-funding identity theft, with clean unwind procedures.
**Analytics & Rule Development**: Build the analytics layer in SQL and Python, including entity resolution linking businesses to owners and devices, shared feature tables joining KYB/transaction/credit data, and rule-level attribution for strategy changes.
**Cross-functional Collaboration**: Partner with EPD, Fraud Ops, Credit, AML/BSA, and product teams to ship strategy changes through the rules engine with governance, performance monitoring, and escalation protocols.
You'll need 5-8 years of fraud analytics experience, with direct business/commercial banking exposure as a strong plus. Deep consumer fraud experience with clear understanding of what transfers to entity context is acceptable. Hands-on experience with KYB orchestration, business identity data sources (secretary of state records, beneficial ownership verification, TIN matching), and vendor stacks (Middesk, Baselayer, LexisNexis, Sentilink) is required. Working command of business fraud typologies—synthetic/shell businesses, straw ownership, bust-out, loan stacking, BEC, vendor fraud—is essential. Strong SQL and Python skills for analytics and rule development required.
