Ozow is a leading fintech company redefining digital payments in South Africa and beyond. As Fraud Manager, you will lead a high-performing fraud operations team to protect Ozow, its merchants, and customers from financial crime and fraud-related losses.
You will define and execute fraud prevention and detection strategy across EFT, card, and emerging payment methods, using data, automation, and industry relationships to catch fraud early without adding friction for legitimate transactions.
Leadership & Team: Lead and develop the Fraud Operations team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement through coaching and performance management. Own team resourcing, capacity planning, shift scheduling, and coverage against alert and investigation volumes. Act as the internal fraud subject-matter expert, guiding fraud operations and controls. Own fraud rule design, risk appetite recommendations, and vendor relationships. Partner with merchants' fraud teams to exchange typology intelligence and coordinate mitigation.
Fraud Strategy & Risk: Translate Ozow's fraud strategy into operational execution aligned with business growth. Continuously assess emerging fraud threats, trends, and attack vectors. Define and monitor key risk indicators that inform fraud risk appetite. Provide fraud risk input into new products and payment methods. Build relationships with industry bodies and fraud intelligence-sharing networks.
Detection, Prevention & Response: Reduce fraud losses across payment methods while protecting approval rates. Drive fraud rule performance through continuous back-testing and tuning. Strengthen detection through case-management tooling, blocklists, watchlists, and monitoring infrastructure. Identify vulnerabilities and recommend preventative measures. Oversee investigations, root-cause analysis, and incident response. Conduct regular fraud risk assessments and control-effectiveness reviews.
Analytics, Reporting & AI: Produce actionable fraud reporting for executives, measuring KPIs such as fraud losses, false positives, and capture rates. Analyse fraud data to surface structured insight and proactive-intervention opportunities. Partner with Data and Product to improve fraud models and risk-based decision-making. Automate manual review workflows and pilot AI-driven tools.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, scheme rules, and internal policies. Equip the team to identify and escalate suspicious activity and file SARs in line with FIC Act obligations. Support audits and regulatory engagements. Develop and maintain fraud policies, procedures, and governance documentation. Identify fraud technology needs and lead adoption of new tools and processes.
