Fortera is transforming cement manufacturing by developing next-generation cement technology that reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 70% through mineralization. The company operates a commercial ReCarb® plant in Redding, California, and is scaling from first-of-a-kind deployment to broader commercialization.
You will build Fortera's financial planning and reporting foundation as the company scales from a single plant to a portfolio. This is a foundational role in a small team where you'll own the annual operating budget process, build forecasts for leadership, and manage capital budgets for plant financing and construction.
Key responsibilities include:
**Operating Budgets:** Lead the annual operating budget process across departments, build and maintain monthly and quarterly forecasts, consolidate departmental inputs into full company P&L/cash flow/balance sheet outlooks, track actuals versus budget and forecast, and explain key variance drivers.
**Capital Project Budgets:** Develop and maintain detailed capital project budgets by project phase and cost category, track committed costs and actual spend, monitor budget changes and contingencies, produce capital spend forecasts, identify cost overruns and funding risks early, and prepare lender reporting packages.
**Reporting & Forecasting:** Prepare monthly reporting packages for leadership, support executive presentations for the board/investors/lenders, build short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts, and provide financial analysis to support business decisions.
**Systems & Process:** Leverage SAP S/4HANA to prepare budgets, forecasts, and capital project reports; establish standardized templates and timelines for budget submissions; build and improve FP&A processes and reporting cadence; collaborate with Accounting, Capital Projects, R&D, Engineering, and other teams.
You'll work directly with the CFO, Controller, and executive team, developing a working understanding of the company's technology and production process. This role offers real ownership in building Fortera's FP&A function, including processes, models, and reporting infrastructure that will support the company's scaling.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related quantitative field
- 5+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, accounting, or related analytical role
- Experience owning a budgeting or forecasting process across multiple departments or stakeholders
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling ability; ability to build budget/forecast models from scratch and defend all assumptions
- Strong analytical judgment; ability to identify when numbers look wrong and investigate independently
- Comfort with ambiguity; ability to scope loosely defined questions, ask the right questions, and deliver structured answers
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Ability to communicate and work closely with technical teams (R&D, engineering) and build understanding of technology and production processes
- High level of ownership, attention to detail, and sound financial judgment
**Nice to Have:**
- Experience with capital project budgeting or project finance in capital-intensive industries (manufacturing, industrials, energy, infrastructure)
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA or comparable ERP systems
- Experience preparing budget, forecast, or diligence materials for lenders, investors, or boards
- Experience supporting capital project financing, draw requests, or lender reporting
- Experience building FP&A processes in scaling or growth-stage companies
- Comfort with AI and incorporation into work
