BackOps AI is building agentic AI to automate supply chain operations at scale. As Founding Finance & Accounting Lead, you'll establish the financial infrastructure, systems, and reporting that enable the company to scale from ~50 employees to hundreds. This hybrid role in San Francisco combines hands-on accounting operations with strategic financial planning and partnership with executive leadership.
You'll own the complete financial foundation: lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closes with GAAP-compliant reporting; oversee AP, AR, customer billing, collections, cash management, and expense management; design scalable accounting policies and internal controls; and manage banking relationships and working capital. You'll also build budgets, forecasts, and financial models that support strategic planning; deliver dashboards and business insights; and partner with sales on bookings, ARR, and revenue forecasting.
The role requires approximately 6–10 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, FP&A, or strategic finance, ideally at venture-backed tech companies. You should have a strong foundation in accounting operations with experience owning or materially contributing to monthly closes, building financial models, and understanding AI business models and growth-stage metrics. You're equally comfortable with operational details and strategic partnership, enjoy building processes from scratch, and communicate clearly with strong analytical and relationship-building skills.
Nice-to-have qualifications include CPA or public accounting background, experience as an early finance hire at high-growth startups, exposure to fundraising and board reporting, familiarity with modern finance systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Ramp, Stripe, Carta), and experience with automation and AI in finance operations.
