Salary: USD 150,000 - 250,000 / annual
Tailscale is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to serve as the technical bridge between the company and its most strategic enterprise customers. In this customer-facing role, you will own the onboarding and long-term success of key accounts, ensuring they maximize value from Tailscale's secure networking platform.
Key responsibilities include leading onboarding for new strategic customers, providing expert technical support and troubleshooting across the platform, conducting quarterly business reviews to identify expansion opportunities, and acting as a trusted technical advisor. You will diagnose and resolve complex issues related to configuration, integration, and platform optimization. Additionally, you'll serve as the voice of the customer internally, relaying feedback to product and engineering teams, and develop technical documentation and best practices to enable customer self-service.
This role requires 6+ years in technical roles with a minimum of 2 years in customer-facing positions (Solutions Engineer, Senior Support Engineer, or similar). You should have strong expertise in networking, VPNs, and security principles, along with hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure), Docker, Kubernetes, and DevOps tools. Excellent communication skills are essential—you must translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences ranging from non-technical stakeholders to engineers.
You'll work cross-functionally with sales, product, engineering, and support teams, managing multiple customer accounts while maintaining strong organizational and time-management skills. A consultative approach to enterprise customer engagement, analytical troubleshooting mindset, and passion for building long-term customer relationships are critical. The role reports to the Team Lead of Customer Success Engineers.
