MatX is seeking a Finance Operations Lead to build and lead the FP&A function at a Series A AI infrastructure company. This is a hands-on, working manager role—not a delegator-only position. You'll own the day-to-day running of financial operations while maintaining strategic oversight.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive financial planning, forecasting, modeling, budgeting, and reporting
- Oversee finance and accounting operations, managing internal team members and external accountants (AR/AP)
- Refine processes, systems, and internal controls to strengthen financial discipline without creating friction for the engineering organization
- Partner cross-functionally to provide financial clarity on hiring, purchasing, employee development, and other guardrails
- Contribute to capital and equity strategy, including project finance, debt facilities, and venture vs. infrastructure capital decisions
- Support investor relations and board discussions with timely financial reporting and insights
- Build and expand the finance function as the company scales from startup to scale-up
- Translate complex financial data into clear insights for non-financial leaders
- Mentor and develop finance team members with clear expectations and career guidance
You bring 10+ years of relevant finance experience, ideally with startup exposure and modern FinOps fluency. You've led a team or served as #2 to a CFO. You're adaptable and collaborative—building processes with teams, not at them. You balance strategic thinking with tactical execution, comfortable with ambiguity and moving quickly. You view both the business and employees as your customers, bringing discipline and a point of view while remaining flexible. You know what right looks like and maintain keen attention to detail and quality.
