Ramp is building smart infrastructure for finance teams, automating how over $200B in annualized spend flows through 70,000+ companies. The company handles payment authorization, risk flagging, spend categorization, and financial close processes.
As a Financial Crimes Compliance Strategist, you will be a key member of Ramp's AML and sanctions compliance program. You will lead comprehensive investigations of escalated transaction-monitoring alerts and internal referrals, evaluate customer relationships and activity holistically, and document clear, defensible risk conclusions. You will prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Unusual Activity Reports (UARs) when appropriate, and flex into other compliance workflows including sanctions reviews, politically exposed persons (PEPs) screening, and enhanced due diligence as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough investigations of transaction-monitoring escalations and internal referrals with proper case documentation and risk-based decision-making
- Recommending account actions or restrictions based on financial crimes risk and presenting findings to the Account Review Board
- Drafting and filing SARs with clear, evidence-based narratives that meet regulatory timelines and confidentiality requirements
- Conducting secondary and peer reviews of investigations to strengthen quality and consistency
- Identifying and driving practical improvements to investigation workflows, procedures, quality standards, and training
- Partnering with Compliance, Risk, Product/Engineering/Design/Data teams to build scalable workflows and AI-enabled capabilities
- Flexing into sanctions, PEPs, customer due diligence, and enhanced due diligence work as program needs evolve
This role combines rigorous risk-based judgment with a builder mindset—you'll improve review workflows while partnering with technical teams to develop automation and AI capabilities that allow Ramp to scale responsibly. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced fintech environments and is excited about building scalable compliance processes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in BSA/AML advisory or operations teams, with at least 2 years in BSA/AML investigations
- Demonstrated experience drafting and filing SARs and making recommendations to leadership on account actions (offboarding, risk acceptance)
- At least 1 year of experience conducting secondary or peer reviews of financial-crimes investigations
- Deep knowledge of money-laundering and terrorist-financing typologies, with ability to apply that knowledge to payment flows and business-customer risk
- Demonstrated experience improving financial-crimes processes, procedures, controls, tooling, training, or quality standards
- AI fluency, including ability to design repeatable, validated multi-step AI-assisted workflows with clear inputs, outputs, review checkpoints, and defined processes to identify and correct unreliable results
- Prior fintech experience
NICE TO HAVES:
- Experience working with bank partners, card issuers, payment partners, or other regulated financial-services partners
- ACAMS certification or equivalent qualification
- Experience delivering automation or AI-assisted workflow improvements in a regulated compliance environment
