Finch is a legal tech startup building infrastructure to make justice more accessible, starting with personal injury law. The company has grown 10x in just over a year, raised a $20M Series A, and is backed by Sequoia, Redpoint, and founders from DoorDash, Ironclad, and Digits. You will be Finch's first dedicated Finance leader, reporting directly to the CEO. This is a ground-up function-building role at a post-Series A company moving at high velocity. In your first 90 days, you'll own invoicing, banking, and cash/investment optimization end-to-end. You'll build and own the company's debt and credit strategy, including evaluating financing structures as the company scales toward Series B. You'll partner with the CEO and executive team on company-wide forecasting—a collaborative exercise, not a solo handoff. You'll sit in strategic and spend conversations across the company, pushing back on decisions that don't hold up financially. You'll set up regulatory guardrails and financial controls appropriate to the company's stage without slowing momentum. You'll build the systems and reporting infrastructure that enable confident financial decision-making in a fast-moving environment. As the company scales, you'll help define what the finance function looks like beyond this initial hire. The ideal candidate is a strategic finance operator who shapes decisions in the room, not just reports on them afterward. You need debt and credit fluency (or demonstrated speed to build it). You've directly owned invoicing, banking, and cash/investment optimization at a prior company and can run it independently. You have a track record of stepping up—senior manager or director-level FP&A or controllership at scale, ready to own a function solo, or 2–3 years as an M&A banker with early promotion. You have a growth mindset: you build systems that let companies move fast, and your default isn't "no." Nice-to-haves include prior finance leadership at a post-Series B startup, direct experience partnering with a hands-on CEO on forecasting, legal tech or B2B SaaS background, and comfort being evaluated in real time (the process includes a live case component). This role may not be for you if you prefer maintaining an already-built finance function, if your instinct is to build process for control rather than speed, or if you want a full finance team around you from day one.
