Blissway is a lean, profitable startup (under 30 employees) that has built a technological lead in toll collection and highway safety systems. The company operates across deep tech, AI/ML, hardware, SaaS, and IoT, with technology deployed on major US interstate highways. As Finance and Operations Specialist, you will be the financial and operational engine of the company, reporting directly to the founder and CEO. This is an individual contributor role with end-to-end ownership of finance and operations. Key Responsibilities: • Keep Things Running: Handle vendor onboarding, contract records, and day-to-day logistics. Fix processes that slow the team down. • Report and Flag: Deliver monthly reporting to founders with budget vs. actuals and cash forecasts. Proactively flag gaps, risks, and opportunities. • Bill and Collect: Invoice customers accurately and on time, including milestone and contract-based billing for public agency customers. Follow up on receivables. • Pay and Track: Pay vendors on time with clear approvals. Track and categorize spending. Maintain vendor records including W-9s and 1099s. • Close the Books: Own monthly close including bank and card reconciliations, accruals, and clean P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements on a predictable schedule. • Handle Small Contracts: Own non-tolling agreements from draft to signature to renewal, including leases, vendor agreements, NDAs, and service contracts. Negotiate standard terms, bring in outside counsel when needed, and track obligations and renewal dates. • Run Payroll and Benefits: Run payroll in Rippling. Keep payroll tax filings current. Manage ICHRA allowance, 401(k), life and disability coverage, Colorado FAMLI premiums, and coordinate leave. • Protect the Company: Own business insurance renewals and certificates of insurance. Maintain a compliance calendar for filings, registrations, and renewals. You are a good fit if you take extreme ownership, think clearly about financial systems, communicate well, spot gaps proactively, see finance as a system to build rather than tasks to complete, are detail-obsessed, learn quickly, and have technical foundations (comfortable with automations, integrations, and AI tools). Bonus: Experience billing public agencies or government contracts (milestone invoicing, required documentation, long payment cycles). CPA or progress toward one is a plus but not required. The company is profitable with long-term contracts, offers in-person collaboration at the Denver engineering office, and provides relocation support. Requirements: • Ability to take extreme ownership and spot what's wrong in financial data • Clear thinking and communication skills (written and verbal) • Detail-oriented with ability to juggle multiple deadlines (payroll, vendor payments, customer invoices, filings, renewals) • Experience closing books or accounting study background • Ability to learn new systems quickly • Comfort with automations, integrations, and AI tools • Bonus: Experience with public agency or government contract billing • Bonus: CPA or progress toward CPA certification
