OpenAI is seeking a Field CTO (Strategic Pursuits) to serve as a strategic bridge between customers, go-to-market teams, and the product organization. This is a highly cross-functional, externally facing leadership role combining deep technical expertise with business acumen and customer empathy.
In this role, you will partner closely with Sales, Technical Success, and Product teams to support complex, high-value enterprise deals as a technical and strategic advisor. You will translate customer business needs into scalable technical solutions and architectures, engaging with senior customer stakeholders (CTO/CIO/VP-level) to drive alignment on vision, roadmap, and adoption. You will lead technical strategy discussions during key deal stages, including discovery, solution design, and executive presentations.
You will guide customers on best practices for deploying and scaling AI-driven solutions in production, providing architectural oversight across use cases such as LLM applications, integrations, data pipelines, and security. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will ensure long-term customer success beyond short-term wins.
A critical part of this role is bringing structured customer insights back to Product and Engineering teams to inform roadmap and prioritization. You will identify gaps, opportunities, and emerging patterns from customer deployments, directly influencing product direction based on real-world usage, scalability needs, and enterprise requirements.
You will help shape GTM strategies by identifying repeatable patterns across industries and customer segments, developing scalable frameworks, reference architectures, and playbooks for broader field teams. You will represent OpenAI externally through customer engagements, industry events, and thought leadership.
Required: 15+ years of technical leadership experience, strong background in enterprise architecture, cloud platforms, and modern software systems, and experience supporting enterprise sales cycles or working closely with GTM teams. Exposure to AI/ML systems, especially LLMs and applied AI use cases, is highly preferred. You must demonstrate ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value, strong problem-solving with bias for action, excellent communication and executive presence, and proven ability to influence without authority across cross-functional teams.
