Adyen is seeking an experienced FEC Counsel to join its fast-paced FEC Governance Team within the wider AML Compliance organization. This role is based in New York City and requires relocation if you are not currently in the area. You will be responsible for identifying and interpreting new obligations under US and international laws and regulations related to Financial Economic Crime, including sanctions, anti-money laundering (AML), and countering the financing of terrorism (CFT). A key focus will be providing counsel on US sanctions regimes, particularly OFAC regulations, Executive Orders, and related measures, with special attention to secondary sanctions risks for non-US affiliates, customers, and counterparties. Your core responsibilities include translating identified regulatory obligations into relevant policies and procedures that can be effectively communicated and implemented across the business, ensuring alignment with both US requirements and Adyen's global compliance framework. You will perform integrity risk assessments in accordance with applicable triggers, assess potential impact including US sanctions violations, and coordinate follow-up actions within the overall integrity risk assessment process. You will support and advise in connection with regulatory inquiries, external and internal audits, and interactions with US and other relevant supervisors. You will represent the wider AML Compliance Team on various workstreams to establish governance strategies that align with global objectives and ensure controlled, compliant growth. The role requires balancing opportunities and risks from multiple angles to achieve compliant solutions that align with commercial and strategic objectives. Required qualifications include 5+ years of relevant experience in a compliance and/or regulatory function within financial services, payments, or at a US regulatory agency. You must possess strong knowledge of US FEC laws and regulations, including OFAC sanctions, AML/CFT, and enforcement frameworks, with the ability to contextualize these internationally. You need excellent research, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess FEC risks and propose practical, business-oriented solutions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential—you must be able to liaise with diverse internal and external stakeholders and draft a wide range of documents with precision and clarity. An affinity for technical details related to FEC compliance, including sanctions screening, geofencing, transaction monitoring controls, and data-driven risk management approaches, is required. You should demonstrate strong initiative, independence, and ownership while being collaborative across levels of seniority, cultures, and backgrounds. Finally, you must hold a US Bar membership in good standing.
