Affirm is seeking an Engineering Onboarding Manager to design and deliver a world-class onboarding experience for new engineers across North America and EMEA. This role owns the end-to-end engineering onboarding program, creating technically credible, welcoming experiences that help new engineers understand Affirm's systems, ship effectively, and grow their impact.
You will lead hands-on learning experiences at the San Francisco office, complemented by virtual and regional programming that builds relationships, context, and practical fluency. You'll partner with Engineering leaders and subject-matter experts across Developer Productivity, SRE, Security, Architecture, and Product teams to build and maintain technical onboarding content. A key focus is translating Affirm's AI-first engineering practices into practical learning experiences, including agent-assisted development, code review, testing, CI, deployment, observability, and production support.
You will work with managers and buddies to create clear, role-relevant onboarding plans that help new engineers establish context and begin contributing effectively. You'll coordinate across Recruiting, Learning, People Ops, IT, Facilities, Finance, and regional partners to ensure each cohort has the access, equipment, environment, and support needed for a strong start. Finally, you'll gather feedback from new hires, managers, and facilitators to continuously improve the content, operations, and experience of the onboarding program.
This is a people-management role focused on program design, cross-functional execution, and creating inclusive learning environments for a technical audience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2–4 years of experience as a technical leader in a software engineering organization
- Understanding of modern software development practices, including AI-assisted development, code review, testing, CI, deployment, observability, and incident response
- Demonstrated improvement of engineering workflows, technical learning programs, or operating practices through thoughtful program design, feedback, and cross-functional execution
- Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear plans, playbooks, and operating rhythms
- Technical judgment to earn trust with Engineering Managers and senior individual contributors, and to shape practical, credible onboarding experiences
- Ability to influence and align partners across Engineering, Learning, Recruiting, People Ops, IT, Facilities, and other teams without direct authority
- Clear communication skills, ability to create inclusive learning environments, and genuine interest in helping engineers build confidence
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
