Checkr is a data platform powering safe and fair decisions through AI verification. The company serves over 140,000 companies including Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash, and Anthropic, helping millions of people navigate critical moments: employment, housing, transportation, childcare, and dating. Checkr is on the Forbes Cloud 100 2025 list and a Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company. The Verifications team owns one of Checkr's most expansive product portfolios, including employment and education verifications, drug and occupational health screenings, reference checks, and right-to-work products. These products serve enterprise customers across diverse industries and regulatory environments, requiring rapid iteration and compliance expertise. As Engineering Manager for Verifications, you will lead a team responsible for a broad surface area of impact: improving accuracy and turnaround time, reducing manual touchpoints, and scaling delivery across complex fulfillment integrations and compliance requirements. The role balances immediate system scalability with long-term process refinement, including near-term work on data quality and automation systems to handle rapid growth, alongside strategic investments in expanding coverage and building a faster, more consistent verification experience. Key responsibilities include: leading and growing the engineering team with focus on technical direction, performance, and career development; owning reliability and quality of fulfillment integrations while partnering with vendors and stakeholders; partnering with Product to define roadmap across employment, education, drug/health, and compliance products; driving technical strategy for scaling complex integration-heavy systems; leading adoption of AI-assisted development practices; and representing Verifications in cross-functional planning with Product, Compliance, and Engineering leadership. You bring 4+ years as an engineering manager with a track record of building high-performing teams, plus 8+ years as a software engineer with strong command of service architecture, distributed systems, and system design. You have experience managing complex third-party integration environments, improving operational metrics in high-stakes production, and working on regulated products where data accuracy and compliance are non-negotiable. You demonstrate strong incident management, prioritization, and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders, with genuine investment in developing people and an A-player mindset.
