Salary: GBP 103,000 - 129,000 / annual
Grafana Labs is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Observability Ingest team, a remote role based in the EU (Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, or UK). The Ingest team builds and maintains configuration and deployment tooling that bridges the gap between "I want observability" and "I have observability." The team owns Fleet Management (a cloud-based central control plane for managing hundreds of thousands of Observability Collectors), the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart (for deploying observability collection in Kubernetes environments), and the Instrumentation Hub (which combines Fleet Management and the Helm Chart for a seamless 1-command instrumentation experience).
In this role, you will manage and develop a team of backend and frontend engineers distributed across EMEA and North America, providing regular feedback and supporting career growth through meaningful conversations. You'll collaborate closely with go-to-market teams to ensure customers and prospects succeed with their observability collection journey, and work with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Helm Chart, and Instrumentation Hub integrate seamlessly into Grafana Cloud's end-to-end user experience.
You will provide guidance throughout the project lifecycle from ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch, guiding the team to deliver high-quality results consistently. You'll foster a psychologically safe environment where engineers can learn, experiment, and iterate quickly, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement. Cross-team collaboration is essential—you'll contribute to projects outside your team's scope and partner with other functions to solve customer problems.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in observability (especially OpenTelemetry) or building a central control plane that manages fleets of collectors is a strong advantage
- Comfortable working with engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy in technical and product-focused decision-making
- Strong people skills and ability to manage relationships while staying current with latest technical trends to understand team challenges
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment using clear, empathetic communication to build trust and psychological safety
- Proven ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance to deliver meaningful, high-quality results
- Deeply customer-focused, grounding decisions and technical choices in user needs and real-world impact
- Solid understanding of distributed systems principles including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability
- Comfort with AI-assisted tooling; curiosity and practical experience folding AI-powered tools into team workflows
