PermitFlow is an applied AI company building the infrastructure layer for construction permitting and compliance. The company has raised $90M+ (Series B) and serves the nation's builders with AI-powered workflows for permitting, licensing, inspections, and project closeouts. PermitFlow has already delivered impact across $20B+ in development. You will lead an engineering team building new product lines from zero to commercial launch, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. This is a builder-leader role combining hands-on technical execution with people leadership. You'll partner closely with the Product Lead for New Products to translate market hypotheses into technical architecture, make fast build-vs-buy decisions, and drive products from pilot through commercial launch. Key responsibilities include: leading and growing an engineering team with high ownership standards; translating unvalidated market hypotheses into testable technical architectures; making pragmatic scope and build-vs-buy calls to test new products cheaply; owning technical execution from pilot to scale; improving system reliability and observability as products mature; hiring and developing engineers energized by 0-to-1 ambiguity; and building strong engineering culture through clear expectations, 1:1s, and career development. You'll operate at the intersection of fragmented regulatory infrastructure, high-friction physical-world systems, and modern AI/software. The role requires comfort with incomplete specs, compressed timelines, and the judgment to build for speed of learning first, then durability second. Required: 5+ years software engineering (1+ in engineering leadership); direct experience shipping 0-to-1 products in startup/high-growth environments through commercial launch; strong system design and architecture fundamentals; ability to lead through ambiguity; strong cross-functional communication; high standards for quality despite timelines; deep technical fluency with code review and architecture. Bonus: founding engineer or early-stage startup experience; exposure to regulated environments (construction, logistics, government systems).
