Adyen is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers building the leading Card Payments platform in North America. Based in Chicago, you will drive the evolution of Adyen's credit card platform, delivering scalable, resilient, and high-performance payment capabilities that process critical transactions for top-tier merchants like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. In this role, you will author Adyen's Credit Card Payments strategy for NORAM, balancing product delivery with long-term platform scalability and maintainability. You'll lead by example, setting context and helping teammates do their best work. Your responsibilities include coaching and mentoring a diverse team of software engineers, prioritizing psychological safety, clear feedback, and long-term career growth. You'll foster a high-performing engineering culture built on ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning. You'll partner closely with Product Managers to translate business priorities into scalable technical solutions, guide architectural discussions, champion high engineering standards, and empower engineers to own technical solutions end-to-end. You'll be comfortable jumping into architecture reviews, unblocking technical hurdles, and guiding code reviews when your team faces complex, high-priority releases. You have a track record of leading and developing software engineering teams, fostering a culture grounded in ownership and collaboration. You enjoy coaching engineers through technical mentorship, regular feedback, and career development. You have a strong software engineering background building large-scale, distributed systems in Java or similar backend technologies. You thrive in cross-functional, globally distributed settings and adapt your communication thoughtfully across regions and cultures. Experience building payment systems or working within the card payments ecosystem (authorization, routing, card schemes, issuer/acquirer integrations) is highly desirable. Minimum qualifications: 3+ years managing cross-functional engineering teams and 7+ years in software development in a fast-paced tech environment.
