OpenAI's Client Platform Engineering (CPE) team is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team responsible for delivering secure, reliable, and user-friendly platform capabilities across macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux. The team owns endpoint posture, device trust, application delivery, onboarding, updates, telemetry, workflow orchestration, and employee-facing remediation.
In this role, you will lead and develop a team of engineers while combining people leadership with strong technical judgment. Key responsibilities include defining and executing a multi-year client-platform strategy across all supported platforms, providing technical direction on endpoint security and device management, and guiding architecture decisions around first-party services, open-source tooling, and cloud infrastructure.
You will establish clear goals, ownership, and execution rhythms that enable rapid delivery without sacrificing quality. A critical focus is raising the bar for reliability and security through observability, staged rollouts, incident learning, and healthy operational ownership. You'll partner deeply with Security, IT, Research, Product, and specialized engineering teams to align priorities and land company-wide changes.
The role balances strong security and compliance controls with developer velocity and employee experience. You'll use metrics around adoption, reliability, security posture, employee experience, and agent effectiveness to steer investment and communicate impact. After ramping up, you'll join the team's on-call rotation and use firsthand operational context to improve systems.
Ideal candidates have built and led teams owning secure, mission-critical services and infrastructure at scale. Deep endpoint expertise is strongly preferred, along with experience in client-platform tool ecosystems (Jamf, Intune, Android Enterprise, FleetDM, Munki, Linux configuration management). Experience with internal platforms, cloud infrastructure (Terraform, Kubernetes), observability at scale, and high-assurance environments is valuable. You should be committed to inclusive team building, clear communication, and cross-functional influence.
