Fluidstack is building civilization-scale compute infrastructure for AI, with a focus on deploying 10s to 100s of GWs of compute faster than competitors. The company acquires power, designs and builds data centers, and operates them across hardware and software teams. The mission is to ensure frontier AI infrastructure aligns with human freedom and choice.
As an Energy Associate, you will drive site diligence and power economics across prospective data center locations. Your core responsibilities include:
- Conduct rapid diligence on prospective sites across both grid interconnection and behind-the-meter generation paths, delivering go/no-go recommendations in days rather than weeks.
- Build and own the delivered cost of power model for candidate sites, incorporating grid tariffs, network upgrade exposure, gas basis, transport, heat rate, and generation availability.
- Serve as the single source of truth on site status, queue position, grid study milestones, contracted fuel and generation position, and next steps for each live site.
- Manage the diligence file for every active site: tariff filings, interconnection studies, pipeline agreements, air permits, offtake term sheets, and generation specifications—maintained to a standard where you can walk counterparties and lenders through them.
- Support leadership through live negotiations with term sheet comparisons, sensitivity analyses, counterparty and credit screens, and the key decision metric, delivered before the next call.
- Track markets and policy affecting the business: ISO large load processes, rate cases, tariff changes, and gas fundamentals in target basins.
Fluidstack operates with full autonomy, insane urgency, first-principles reasoning, and a focus on building something that matters. You will own things end-to-end, take on scope without being asked, and operate at high intensity.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- You have built a financial model that someone traded, invested, or committed capital off, and can defend every assumption under pressure.
- You have read contracts, tariffs, or study reports closely and identified the 2-3 terms that materially change economics, rather than summarizing everything.
- You can turn a disordered data room into a one-page recommendation that names the core decision driver.
- You have caught material errors in others' work before they reached decision makers and raised them.
- You have been dropped into an unfamiliar market or asset class and become useful within weeks, and can explain how you got up to speed.
- You document findings the same day you find them, so site files never depend on information in your head.
- Bonus experience: commodities trading or analytics in gas or power (basis, storage, transport, fundamentals); origination and structuring (PPA and offtake work); large load or generator interconnection across ISOs (ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, WECC); transaction diligence from M&A, project finance, or infrastructure investing; behind-the-meter or distributed generation development; modeling and data tooling (Python, SQL, ICE/CME data, Wood Mackenzie, Velocity Suite).
