Ascend Analytics is seeking Energy Analysts and Senior Energy Analysts to join SmartBidder, a leading energy bid optimization and scheduling platform for renewable energy and storage projects. SmartBidder provides custom bid optimization in day-ahead and real-time power markets using probabilistic and AI-assisted models that incorporate forecasted nodal price dynamics, asset-specific constraints, and risk-based optimization.
In this role, you will lead quantitative analysis and deliver on-time results to clients in the energy sector. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining fundamental models of electricity markets to support electricity trading, providing clients with expertise in analytic modeling for asset valuation and risk management, and analyzing renewable integration strategies. You will monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on market operations, participate in on-call rotations to support real-time market operations, and devise new approaches to represent complex results for decision analysis.
You will work alongside executive leadership and key utility and corporate clients, solving complex analytic problems that drive mission-critical decisions for energy supply. The role requires assimilating complex information into clear reports and presentations, performing in-depth analysis of power market operations, and serving as a technical resource for scoping, building, deploying, and launching initiatives.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in economics, engineering, or energy; 1+ years of prior experience in energy (5+ years for Senior Analyst level) with a utility, consulting firm, government, or non-profit; understanding of energy modeling systems and methods; command of wholesale power market structures and value streams; demonstrated track record working with clients and teams; and strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
Preferred qualifications include a master's or advanced degree in economics, engineering, or energy; proficiency with analytic software programming (R, Python, or similar); previous project management experience; and knowledge of deregulated power market operations.
