Ascend Analytics is seeking an Energy Analyst or Senior Energy Analyst to join its PowerVAL team in Boulder, Colorado. PowerVAL is an industry-leading project valuation platform that leverages 20+ year nodal sub-hourly price forecasts and proprietary dispatch simulation models to determine project value across all generation asset classes and U.S. power markets. The platform integrates fundamental market drivers, technology-specific operating characteristics, and regulatory dynamics to produce bankable, transaction-ready valuations used by developers, investors, banks, and utilities for solar, storage, wind, hybrid, and thermal projects. In this role, you will help clients make strategic decisions in the development, acquisition, and financing of energy assets. You will perform in-depth analysis of power market operations using both in-house software and commercially available production cost modeling tools (PROMOD, PLEXOS, Aurora, PSO). You will assimilate complex information into clear reports and presentations that drive decision-making for utilities, independent power producers, and other stakeholders. You will provide expertise in power markets and guidance on how market evolution impacts revenue forecasts, asset valuation, risk management, public policy, and renewable integration. You will solve complex analytic problems to support mission-critical decisions for energy supply and serve as a go-to resource for client decision-making. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (economics, engineering, or energy strongly preferred) and 1+ years of experience in a power or electricity-focused role at a utility, consulting firm, government agency, financial institution, or non-profit (3+ years required for Senior Analyst). You must have working knowledge of wholesale power market structures and deregulated electricity market operations, plus strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate complex data. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a quantitative field, proficiency in Python or R, experience with production cost modeling software, and for Senior Analyst roles, direct experience with long-term electricity price forecasting, project valuation, dispatch modeling, risk management, or project finance. Ascend Analytics is a high-growth, private equity–backed company on a mission to create sustainable economic value for energy buyers and producers to transform the power industry. The team combines advanced analytics, cloud-based technology, and deep market expertise to help clients solve complex challenges across grid reliability, power market volatility, renewable integration, infrastructure development, and energy investment strategy.
