Beacon Software is seeking an experienced employment lawyer to build and lead its employment legal function from the ground up. Reporting to the VP of Legal, you will be the first dedicated employment specialist and will own the complete build-out of employment law infrastructure across Beacon and its growing portfolio of vertical market software companies.
Key responsibilities include: establishing governance models and employment law coverage frameworks; partnering with HR to develop foundational employment agreements, offer letter templates, onboarding/offboarding documentation, policies, handbooks, and codes of conduct; serving as the primary employment law resource for portfolio companies, fielding questions on compensation, benefits, accommodation, leaves of absence, performance management, and investigations; managing all aspects of employee terminations and separations, including drafting separation agreements and advising on severance entitlements; owning employment-related claims and disputes (human rights complaints, wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, regulatory complaints); and building a comprehensive library of templates, precedents, and playbooks for use across the organization.
This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role for a lawyer who thrives on building functions from scratch, enjoys variety, and wants to own an entire practice area. You will balance risk management with practical business outcomes, develop scalable frameworks for multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction operations, and provide real-time guidance to HR and management on sensitive people matters. The role requires deep employment law expertise, strong judgment in complex terminations and disputes, and the ability to translate legal requirements into commercially sensible policies that work across diverse portfolio companies.
