Anthropic is seeking a Discovery Operations Lead to build and scale its litigation and regulatory discovery operations from the ground up. This role sits at the intersection of legal strategy and technical operations, managing the full electronically stored information (ESI) lifecycle across active matters and developing enterprise-wide information governance programs.
Key responsibilities include designing and operating discovery workflows across the entire EDRM lifecycle (preservation, collection, processing, hosting, review, production), with particular attention to novel AI-specific data types. You will own the legal hold program—custodian identification, hold issuance, tracking, re-notification, and defensible release. You'll stand up and administer Anthropic's discovery technology stack, including RelativityOne, in-place preservation and collection tools for Slack and Google Workspace, and supporting analytics platforms.
You will design standard operating procedures and playbooks that make discovery work defensible, repeatable, and scalable. This includes operating the discovery vendor program: selection, onboarding, SOWs, pricing, SLAs, and performance reviews across review providers, ALSPs, forensic specialists, and platform vendors. You'll serve as the primary operational liaison between in-house counsel, outside counsel, vendors, and internal technical teams.
A critical part of this role involves partnering with Security, IT, and product engineering to instrument new data sources for hold and collection, ensuring each ESI source has a governed retention, hold, and disposition path. You will develop and operate Anthropic's information governance program operationally: retention schedule execution, classification rollout, defensible disposition workflows, and data-inventory maintenance.
You'll build measurement and reporting systems to track matter status, hold population, data volumes, vendor spend, cycle time, and review quality to drive decisions and demonstrate defensibility. The role includes integrating AI and automation into the EDRM lifecycle—generative-AI-assisted review, advanced analytics, custom Relativity applications, and agentic workflow automation. You'll support active litigation, government investigations, and regulatory inquiries as the operational counterpart, and design internal tools to streamline critical discovery workflows with dashboards reporting on data management trends.
Minimum qualifications include hands-on discovery experience across the full EDRM lifecycle with demonstrated ownership on complex matters in an in-house legal department, government agency, law firm, or vendor. You should have a track record of founding or rebuilding discovery operations functions, defining operating models, selecting platforms and vendors, and writing defensible playbooks at scale. Working knowledge of major discovery platforms (RelativityOne preferred) and experience with legal hold software, ESI collection tools, and data analytics platforms is required.
