Lightship builds fully electric travel trailers and commercial power platforms engineered for modern travel and fleet applications. The AE.1 is a consumer electric trailer with a 77 kWh battery pack that propels itself to improve towing efficiency and range. PowerSled is the commercial variant—a 240 kWh platform with 38 kW continuous output serving defense, commercial, and infrastructure buyers. Both are assembled in the US with 80% domestic component sourcing.
As Director of Marketing, you will report to the Chief Commercial Officer and Co-Founder and own the complete marketing function: strategy, team, and financial accountability. You'll develop a marketing strategy that ties brand building directly to pipeline and revenue, articulate it across the organization, and maintain it through the operational turbulence of a growth-stage hardware company.
Key responsibilities include: setting and executing a cohesive marketing strategy across paid, organic, lifecycle, PR, events, partnerships, community, and the website; partnering with a separate Brand team on audience insights and creative briefs; building qualified demand through the full funnel with a focus on the long sales cycle of high-consideration purchases; leading and coaching a small marketing team (currently 3 direct reports); owning marketing dashboards (CAC, pipeline contribution, conversion, brand lift) and making candid recommendations on what to scale and what to cut; supporting PowerSled's commercial go-to-market; and staying deeply connected to the product by spending time on the build floor, in the trailers, and with engineering.
The role is based in either Broomfield, CO or South San Francisco, CA with an expectation of 3–5 days per week in-office presence. Periodic travel (up to 25%) between offices, owner events, shows, and shoots is required. This is fundamentally a builder's role in a hardware company where the best marketing insights come from proximity to the physical product.
**Requirements:**
- 10+ years in marketing, including 4+ years leading a team, with a track record of taking a consumer brand from early awareness to real demand
- Experience marketing a high-consideration, physical product with a long sales cycle where buyers research for months before committing
- Data-driven approach: set measurable goals, track attribution, and adjust strategy based on results
- Excellent storytelling ability; ability to make technical products accessible and compelling
- Experience building a marketing team and function from early stage
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Category experience in RV, outdoor, automotive, EV, or premium hardware
- Direct-to-consumer experience with high-ticket products sold without a dealer network
- Building an owner community into an advocacy engine (rallies, referrals, user-generated content)
- Exposure to a dual consumer and commercial go-to-market under one brand
- Experience at a Series B or C company that scaled through this phase
