Form Energy, a climate-tech company pioneering long-duration iron-air battery systems for grid-scale energy storage, seeks a Director of Technical Accounting and Reporting. This is a critical leadership role reporting to the CFO, responsible for all external financial reporting, technical accounting expertise, and SOX compliance. Key Responsibilities: SEC & External Financial Reporting: Lead preparation, review, and filing of all external financial reports (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Proxy Statements) in compliance with SEC regulations. Oversee financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A. Coordinate XBRL tagging and work with external filing agents. Ensure accurate reporting of EPS, share-based compensation, and equity roll-forwards. Partner with Investor Relations on earnings releases and investor presentations. Technical Accounting & Policy: Serve as the company's internal subject matter expert on complex U.S. GAAP matters and emerging accounting standards (ASC 606, ASC 842, business combinations, debt/equity transactions, impairment). Research and document technical accounting conclusions. Lead accounting assessments for M&A, divestitures, and strategic transactions. Develop and maintain the company's global accounting policies manual. Audit, Controls, & Compliance: Act as primary liaison with external auditors, managing audit timelines and issue resolution. Maintain and enhance internal control environment for SOX compliance. Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements to accelerate financial close and reporting cycles. Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership: Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team. Partner with FP&A on forecasting and modeling of complex transactions. Collaborate with Legal on SEC filings, proxy materials, and insider trading compliance. The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week at one of three offices: Berkeley, CA; Somerville, MA; or Weirton, WV. Requirements: Required: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field - Active CPA license (strictly required) - 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including minimum 4–5 years at a Big 4 or top-tier public accounting firm - Direct experience managing SEC reporting and technical accounting for a publicly traded organization - Deep, practical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX 404 compliance - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill complex accounting concepts for non-accounting executives Preferred: - Experience with financial reporting software (Oracle, Workiva) - Prior experience with technical accounting implications of acquisitions, financing offerings, fixed asset accounting, cost accounting, and revenue accounting policies - Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments with high visibility to C-suite and Audit Committee
