New York Magazine seeks a Director of Podcasts to lead multiplatform show strategy and programming across its editorial portfolio, including Vulture, the Cut, and four additional verticals. This role combines creative leadership with operational excellence to develop original audio and video franchises that extend the magazine's reach and impact. Key responsibilities include developing and executing a long-term multiplatform podcast strategy, conceiving and launching new podcast concepts from idea through pilot and release, and creating franchises with cross-platform potential (audio, video, social, live). You will identify, cultivate, and coach editorial talent across New York Magazine's coverage areas, working with editorial leadership to uncover distinctive voices and opportunities. You will oversee all aspects of show development including editorial direction, host development, production workflows, and programming. Build a long-term roadmap for a portfolio of shows supporting audience growth, engagement, and revenue objectives. Evaluate opportunities to acquire or partner with external podcasts, creators, and talent aligned to the magazine's strategy. Recruit and manage external creative partners, producers, and talent as needed. Cross-functional collaboration is essential: partner with audience teams on multiplatform growth strategies, work with ad sales and subscription teams to build franchise business opportunities, and lead broader stakeholder management and execution. The ideal candidate has 10+ years developing, launching, and growing original audiovisual programs or podcasts. You demonstrate strong editorial instincts, experience translating culture, politics, business, lifestyle, or entertainment coverage into compelling audio and video formats, and proven ability identifying and coaching on-air talent. You cultivate relationships with top-tier talent and creators, understand video podcasting and creator-led media, and possess deep knowledge of the podcast industry, audience behavior, distribution platforms, and emerging trends. Excellent project management, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills required, with ability to operate strategically while executing hands-on development work.
