LuminosAI is building the embedded oversight layer that enables engineering and product teams to ship AI systems—agents, generative AI, and beyond—without delays for legal review. The company positions itself as the "legal AI within your AI," providing governance and risk infrastructure for organizations navigating rapid AI deployment.
As Director of Legal Engineering, you will lead both customer relationships and an internal multidisciplinary team. This is a dual-responsibility role combining customer leadership with team management.
Customer Leadership: You will own a portfolio of enterprise customer accounts, serving as the senior trusted partner for their legal, compliance, privacy, risk, and AI governance needs. You will ensure clear deliverables, reliable communication, and measurable value from the LuminosAI platform. You will identify expansion opportunities and bring customer feedback into product strategy.
Team Leadership: You will manage and develop a multidisciplinary team of lawyers, legal engineers, and data scientists. You will set priorities across customer engagements, product development, and evaluation design. You will build repeatable processes and systems to support growing customer demand while fostering a culture of intellectual rigor, customer responsiveness, and cross-functional collaboration.
Technical Translation: You will translate legal obligations, regulatory guidance, and risk requirements into concrete, testable technical standards. You will guide development of evaluation techniques for generative and agentic AI systems, including multi-step agent behavior, tool use, and failure modes. You will apply requirements from the EU AI Act, state AI and privacy laws, EEOC guidance, sector-specific regulation, and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
Cross-functional Collaboration: You will partner with product leadership to translate customer needs into scalable platform capabilities, work with sales during customer evaluations and renewals, and contribute to LuminosAI's broader strategy around legal engineering and automated AI oversight.
You bring at least five years of professional experience in legal services, privacy, compliance, enterprise risk, AI governance, responsible AI, data science, or enterprise software. You have significant experience managing customer or client relationships and taking responsibility for ongoing outcomes. You can translate between technical and legal audiences—explaining complex technical findings to general counsel and legal requirements to machine learning engineers. You are comfortable engaging with data scientists and engineers on technical details of AI systems and evaluations. You thrive in a growing company where responsibilities evolve and leaders move fluidly between strategy and execution.
