Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical geospatial data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. We are seeking a Director of Government Affairs based in Arlington, VA to lead Planet's strategic engagement with the U.S. government on national security policy, budget, and legislative advocacy.
In this role, you will execute Planet's government affairs strategy with Congress and U.S. national security agencies including the Department of Defense, National Reconnaissance Office, and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. You will serve as the primary point of contact for Members of Congress, Congressional staff, and national security policy leadership at the White House and federal agencies. You will work closely with Planet's Global Government Affairs team, Business Development, Sales, and executive leadership to develop strategic positions and advance policy priorities that align with Planet's business objectives.
Key responsibilities include demonstrating thought leadership in the U.S. National Security policy community; leading national security engagements with Congress to shape policy and funding opportunities in Appropriations and Authorization legislation; communicating Planet's unique value proposition to national security stakeholders; collaborating with internal teams to identify and capture new opportunities in the national security ecosystem; and serving as a strategic advisor to sales and customer success teams. Success will be measured by increased trust and credibility with key U.S. national security stakeholders, early identification of political and programmatic risks, and growth of key U.S. government programs leveraging Planet's capabilities.
You will attend conferences, symposia, and stakeholder meetings, and work in a hybrid capacity from our Arlington office 3 days per week. This position requires deep knowledge of U.S. Federal Government processes, institutions, and relationships; professional experience working with Congress and federal agencies; and the ability to educate stakeholders on commercial aerospace opportunities while advancing near-term business opportunities for Planet.
