Statflo is a business texting platform serving telecom, financial services, and retail companies. The company powers 30+ million conversations annually for enterprise clients with built-in compliance safeguards (TCPA, CTIA, CASL, SOC 2). Statflo is a remote-first company of 40+ people headquartered in downtown Toronto.
Statflo is hiring its first Director of Finance—a senior, hands-on leader who will own finance for the company as it scales. You will be the most senior (and initially only) member of the finance function, acting as a strategic partner to the CEO, board, lenders, and shareholders, while also supporting key operational functions including RevOps and Salesforce administration.
The company plans to hire a Controller within twelve months to own day-to-day transactional accounting, but until then this role requires a willingness to roll up your sleeves and handle details. This is an opportunity to build a finance and ops function largely from the ground up, shape it in your own image, and grow into a broader leadership role as the company scales.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategic Finance: Serve as Statflo's senior finance voice with the board, management team, lenders, and shareholders—preparing board materials, financial updates, and ad hoc analyses. Own the company's financial projection model and cash-runway model, keeping them current and stress-tested. Lead financial planning & analysis (FP&A): budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and monthly/quarterly reporting. Manage relationships with lenders and support debt covenant compliance. Support fundraising, financing, and strategic transactions including data room management. Track and report on core SaaS metrics—ARR, CARR, MRR, GRR, and NRR—and translate them into insights that shape pricing and go-to-market decisions. Own cap table management and equity administration.
Hands-On Finance: Support the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing/collections. Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial statements and tax filings.
Operations: Support Revenue Operations (RevOps): sales forecasting, quote-to-cash processes, and commission/comp plan administration. Administer and continuously improve Salesforce to ensure the CRM supports accurate reporting and clean data. Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and insurance. Identify and implement systems and process improvements across finance and ops.
Team Building: Define the hiring plan for a Controller and other future finance hires; lead the search, hire, and onboard. Build the processes, systems, and controls that will let the finance/ops function scale smoothly.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7–10+ years of progressive finance experience, including meaningful time as a Controller or in a similarly senior accounting/finance role
- Strong SaaS industry background, with fluency in ARR, CARR, MRR, GRR, and NRR, and understanding of how these metrics connect to unit economics and business strategy
- Direct experience building and owning financial projection and cash-runway models
- Experience preparing for and presenting to a board of directors, and ideally direct experience working with lenders and/or shareholders/investors
- Genuine willingness to be hands-on with day-to-day transactional work in the near term, balanced with the judgment to operate strategically
- Comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy and ambiguity in a startup/scale-up environment, with strong prioritization skills across a broad mandate
- CPA (or equivalent) designation preferred, not required
- Excellent communication skills—able to translate complex financial and operational information for a range of audiences, from the board to first-line managers
