Monzo is a fintech company on a mission to make money work for everyone, transforming traditional banking through digital innovation. The company offers personal and business bank accounts, joint accounts, credit cards, savings, investments, and pensions in the UK, with ambitions to expand globally. As Director of Data for Payments, you will lead the data strategy and team for Monzo's payments division, which is central to the company's core product experience and global expansion ambitions. Payments at Monzo go beyond transaction processing—they represent trust, speed, and financial control for customers, and are key to building borderless banking capabilities across new markets and currencies. You will be a senior member of the Payments leadership team, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Design to shape payments strategy and drive commercial outcomes. Your responsibilities include establishing data-driven decision-making frameworks, identifying commercial optimization opportunities (pricing, commercialization, customer growth), setting the data operating model and architecture for Payments, and developing a high-performing team of data professionals. Key day-to-day activities involve co-driving Payments strategy with product and engineering leaders, bringing data insights into early-stage discovery, translating between technical and commercial perspectives, and building accountability for product and business outcomes across your team. You will also identify untapped opportunities for revenue growth and operational efficiency. You should have deep experience driving payments innovation and product strategy in fast-growing businesses, combining strong data expertise with product and commercial judgment. You are comfortable moving between detailed metrics discussions and high-level customer strategy and pricing decisions. You are an empathetic people leader who builds trust quickly, raises performance standards, and retains excellent talent. Experience growing and leading full data teams is expected.
