Zscaler is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to lead multiple data engineering teams in building and scaling a high-performance, multi-tenant cybersecurity data platform. Reporting to the VP Engineering - Lakehouse within the Exposure Management & Security Operations department, you will own the strategy, architecture, and operational excellence of a mission-critical data infrastructure serving both internal analytics and external customer-facing products.
Your responsibilities include managing and mentoring engineering managers and technical leads, ensuring alignment between platform strategy and company objectives across cross-functional partnerships. You will engineer, maintain, and scale core data pipelines and infrastructure, designing reliable ETL and ELT flows that integrate data from databases, APIs, event streams, business systems, and data lakes. You'll oversee platform reliability, cost optimization, CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise-grade observability to support Zscaler's world's largest security data lake.
You will build scalable data solutions that empower internal teams and drive external product innovation, partnering closely with business teams, product stakeholders, and support organizations to transform raw data needs into robust self-serve analytics and AI-assisted insights. The role demands both strategic vision and hands-on execution—you'll balance high-level platform decisions with deep technical involvement when needed.
Success in this role requires 7+ years of data engineering experience with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity. You should demonstrate mastery of distributed systems, cloud data architecture, and orchestration frameworks, with strong expertise in data analysis, visualization, and ETL/ELT pipeline orchestration. Experience in B2B SaaS environments is essential. Preferred qualifications include deep expertise with multi-tenant data platforms at scale, modern query engines (Snowflake, BigQuery, Trino, Spark), and cybersecurity domain knowledge. You should be data-driven, pragmatic, resilient, and comfortable with ambiguity—someone who acts as an owner, balances technical excellence with rapid delivery, and thinks systemically about scaling processes for growth.
