Fuse is building a fusion energy company with a mission to accelerate the world's transition to fusion while safeguarding humankind. As Director of Contracts, you will own the end-to-end federal contracting portfolio, from acquisition strategy through execution and compliance.
This is a strategic leadership role, not a narrow contracts-administration function. You will shape how Fuse pursues, negotiates, structures, and executes complex U.S. government work while ensuring compliance as the portfolio scales.
Core responsibilities include:
- Guide planning, proposal support, negotiation, and execution of federal government contract vehicles
- Own the cradle-to-grave contracting process across the federal portfolio
- Develop and grow a library of strategic agreements enabling efficient engagement with federal customers
- Collaborate with legal, product, sales, and engineering teams on strategic pricing and contract terms
- Support business development in identifying and developing new contract opportunities
- Develop strategic partnerships for unique contract teaming arrangements
- Manage operational compliance with cybersecurity and supply chain requirements (CMMC, Section 889, SCRM, FOCI/CFIUS)
- Administer GSA Schedule modifications and scope reviews
Minimum qualifications: 8+ years on U.S. government contracts; solid understanding of procurement processes, contract vehicles, and non-traditional acquisition approaches; ability to lead multiple complex projects end-to-end; strong written and verbal communication; proven experience leading teams through complex contracts for major systems.
Preferred: 10+ years in complex government contracting; experience in both government and private industry; expert knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and supplements; hands-on experience with all major contract types (FFP, FPI, CPIF, CPAF, CPFF, T&M, BOA, ID/IQ, OTAs, CSOs); active security clearance.
This is an in-office role based in Washington, D.C. (with potential secondary facility in San Leandro, CA). Relocation assistance provided. Role requires extended hours and weekend work when needed, and may involve travel to other Fuse facilities. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency required per ITAR regulations. May require obtaining and maintaining a U.S. government security clearance.
